The 4th graders have been exploring landforms, focusing on rocks and how they reveal evidence of changes to Earth's surface over time. Today, they "dug" into the world of fossils. They learned that fossils are the preserved remains or traces of organisms and discovered four types: cast, trace, true form, and mold fossils. To bring the lesson to life, Mrs. Meyer prepared dough and provided each group with some to create their own fossils. Each student received a small toy dinosaur to create examples of the four fossil types. Afterward they became archaeologists and participated in a "fossil dig," using toothpicks and paintbrushes to extract chocolate chip "fossils" from cookies. The students enjoyed this engaging, hands-on activity, which brought their learning to life in a memorable way!

Mrs. Meyer's 6th grade science class has been learning about cells! One of the Missouri state standards for this topic challenges students to develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell as a whole and how its parts contribute to that function. The students took on this challenge with incredible creativity! They used everything from food and craft supplies to household items to bring their cell models to life. The only criteria was that the model had to be 3-dimensional and that each organelle must be clearly labeled on the model. The 6th graders worked really hard on this project! Be sure to check out all of their hard work in these photos! They are also on display outside of the gymnasium, so if you come to the junior high basketball games Friday night, you can seen them in person! We kindly ask that you respect their work and do not touch them.
